| Hello everyone, this is not a soliscitation I am not asking you to buy anything. I am asking someone out there to rescue this animal and bring him to a good home. It could be yours. The dog is an 11 month old Alaskan malemute/ Great Pyrenee's mix. He answers by the name of Max. You see I had to give him up because my wife has a phobia for large dogs. In her defense it really isn't her fault. She truly believed that she could handle her fear when she bought the dog as a 3 month old pup for my birthday but unfortunally that isn't what happened and the phobia made her sick so we had to get remove the dog from the home. Max is a good dog and is currently held at Animal Control in the city of Haskell, Arkansas. He loves to play, loves people and yogurt. He would often greet me with a nice smile and a hug when I came home from work. As you can tell I loved this dog and am sick that we had to let him go. The reason i am appealing to any who would listen to this and to my prayer is that their must be someone out there who can give Max a new home. The reason for the urgentcy is that when I spoke to the Control Officer, Max would be hear for the next five days before moving on to Bryant animal Control and there he would be for the next thirty days, because of limited space if they could not find a home for Max there is a high chance that he will be euthanized. Please, please help this dog. He doen't deserve this. He is a great dog that deserves to grow old with someone. |

I guess I just cannot wrap my mind around why this dog (this great dog that deserves to grow old with someone) could stay for 8 months and then had to go to animal control.
It is too late for Max, but I hope if anyone else finds themselves with a great dog that they have to get rid of, they can give it a little time. Maybe have the dog courtesy listed with a rescue and keep it in the home pending adoption...that way adopters are screened, there isn't the fear/probability that the dog will be euthanized...just two of so many pluses.
I do "get" that it isn't always possible (though I don't buy most of the reasons that an animal has to go RIGHT NOW...IME/IMO there is usually a significant period of time where the owner could have been doing something to try and keep the animal safe and get it into a new home.
I'm sorry, OP. I know that doesn't help you in this situation. I just hope that someone else who has an animal for an extended period of time and is now getting rid of it will at least consider fostering their pet and having a rescue assist with a courtesy listing, etc. |

| To swaimp, I am not the issue. My wife tried to deal with her phobia, however in the end she could not deal with her fear and we could not keep the dog. It isn't a question of courtesy, I am not pointing fingers, my goal is to try and find a family for Max. For whomever is interested. |

We can agree to disagree about whether you are the issue or part of the issue or not the issue at all. In all honesty (and I believe I said this in my post), my post is directed at other people who might find themselves in the same situation. I believe there are better ways to handle it, and possibly there are people out there that are not aware that many rescues will do a courtesy listing to help an animal find a good home.
I sincerely hope Max gets a good home. While I am sorry your wife has this phobia, I am more concerned about the dog. I do wish it hadn't taken 8 months to realize he needed the new home, and that once it was realized he had been allowed to stay until the new home was found...but again, wishing doesn't change this situation. Hopefully it can make a difference in somebody else's situation.
What does Max look like? Is it possible a Great Pyr rescue or a Malamute rescue might be interested in him? Some breed rescues will also take in dogs that are a high mix...I know an Anatolian Shepherd rescue that has a lot of Anatolian/Great Pyr mixes...not sure if the Great Pyr/Malamute would be an option for them (probably not, but I will put the question out). Do you have a picture of him you could post? That would help to see if breed specific rescue might be an option.
Have you contacted any rescues? I'm not in your area at all, and not familiar with any local rescues you may have available...can't think of anyone from your area off the top of my head... |

How horrible for this dog, probably sentenced to death for such a stupid reason. Did your wife not realize that this dog was a mix of 2 large dogs before she "bought" it??? Maybe instead of buying a dog she should have gone to volunteer at a shelter and see if she could acclimate herself to large dogs before commiting to one. So sad, I hope you both realize what a bad situation you have put this dog in. _________________ Saving Goldens, in memory of my sweet Emma

| I totally agree with Baileysmom. Why was it the shelter or nothing? Why couldnt everyone have sucked it up and tried to rehome the dog or gotten him into rescue before just taking him to the shelter where chances are high he'll be put to sleep. I just dont get it, I'll never understand this. I go down the ads on craigslist at the idiotic reasons people are dumping there dogs and it makes me sick. Again, I just dont get it! |

He must be terrified at animal control. It seems like he is also doomed to die there.
Can you bring him home or get him into boarding in order to make an effort to find a home for him? Please do something to help him. Contact all the rescues you can asap!

Hopefully the OP will return with more information about Max. Until then, are there any Great Pyr or Mal rescues in the area that can try and track down Max?
Here is the link for Bryant AC's Petfinder site. It includes Haskell AC's contact info:
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/AR48.html
Anyone nearby who can take a ride to Haskell or Bryant AC and check on Max?
Ditto to B&L's post. After another day of coming home to the daily e mails about dogs in need (today's include a senior chocolate Lab needing to get away from her adopters who are beating her for pooping in the house when they leave her home unattended for 10+ hours, and an emaciated (28-pound) adult Lab found stuffed in a trash can) I am really sick of people. |

I searched for rescues in Arkansas. There are a ton of malmute breeders but not rescues. It does not mean not there are none, I just did not find them. There is one GP rescue I found and forwarded the info.
Here is the contact info for the GP rescue in the state. Maybe a few emails might help this poor guy.

There are many rescue organizations in Arkansas! Click onto the PF homepage, and search Animal Shelters/rescues in your state or even neighboring states. Good luck in rehoming Max!! _________________

| Why in gods name would your wife adopt a GREAT PYRENEES mix when she has a phobia of large dogs? Why not a small dog? |

Um yeah, how is this not your wifes fault? My wife bought a very large breed dog and now wants to get rid of it. I'm missing the not entirely and soley her fault part.
Poor Max. I don't know of any breed rescue that is goingto take a mix unless he is really predominently one breed..... I'd start trying to plead my case to a shelter or all breed rescue - but I guess since you've "had the dog removed from your home by AC" that ship has sailed. _________________

Tsk, tsk.....guys, this is not how we treat a new PF member!! He asked for help for Max. He got more questions and negative comments than positive suggestions!!
Do we all need a pep talk here??
I hope we hear good news about Max soon!! _________________

Hear, Hear!
Do you have a photo of Max we could cross post?
Hopefully some rescues in area can be notified to pull him from the shelter.
I hear rescues pull shelter dogs all the time. _________________

While I agree whole heartedly with the plight for Max, I cannot and will not let this sort of post slide. They need to understand that they put this dog in this very compromising position. It seems to me by the attitude of the original post that this is not their fault that this happened. When we all know, it is quite to the contrary. Sorry, but I am not a sugar coater. _________________ Saving Goldens, in memory of my sweet Emma
